2014 Summer reading programs in Hawaii

Two summer reading programs in Hawaii are underway! As you head for the beach, cheer a sports game, pack for a picnic, or take a hike, slip a book into your bag – and get rewarded for it.

Hawaii Public Libraries Summer Reading

* Fizz Boom Read to Spark a Reaction with Literary Elements! Registration starts today for summer reading programs for all ages at Hawaii Public Libraries. Children and teens are encouraged to explore all things science, while adults are challenged to learn more about the world around us. Everyone can sign up to read more books, participate in science experiments, and win cool prizes.

Last year, 27,769 people registered for the “Can You Dig It!” summer reading program and read 305,885 books in five weeks! How many more books can we read this year?

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading

* Where will your imagination take you? Barnes and Noble is sponsoring a summer reading program, Imagination’s Destination, for children in first through sixth grades. Between May 20 and September 2, when kids read 8 books and fill out a reading journal, they can turn it in at Barnes and Noble in Honolulu or Lahaina for a free book from the book list! Parents and teachers can download a free Summer Reading Activity Guide.

What books will you read this summer? Challenge your friends and family to read!
